Albert Khait

As a pediatrician, academic, educator, and Jiu Jitsu enthusiast, it is only natural for me to promote fitness, personal growth, and friendship in our Inland Empire community. I see the new academy that Spencer and I have founded as a necessary step to make this vision a reality. At Sektor, we aim to foster a family-centered atmosphere that primarily caters to children and teens and will encourage parent-and-me classes for the younger ones. Don’t worry, adults who wish to train Jiu Jitsu will have a chance to train too!

I personally have been training Jiu Jitsu for 13 years and have been a black belt for four years, having earned it in Montreal, Canada, from Bruno Fernandes. I have done sports my entire life, but I started training Jiu Jitsu when I was in medical school. It was a great way to find balance in my life and keep me healthy. No matter what kinds of difficult things I was dealing with, I always had Jiu Jitsu.

My wife and I have now been living in the IE for almost four years, and we have two daughters. I hope that they too will grow up with martial arts in their lives. And I also hope that I help introduce this art to as many of my fellow community members that I can.

Spencer Mendivil

Spencer began his training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in 2009 at Ralph Gracie Chino Hills, under Gabriel Costa (3rd degree black belt & head ref of the IBJJF). Quickly after discovering his passion for the sport he was called to move away for work. After training at various gyms in his new area he grew unsatisfied with the quality of instruction and training environment. After much reflection he decided to move back to his hometown and continue his training under Gabriel Costa.

Shortly after his return home Spencer found his way into the role of assistant kids coach at Ralph Gracie Chino Hills. There he continued training, teaching and competing for several years under Gabriel and Sean Roberts, before earning his purple belt.

When a friendly school, in a neighboring city found itself without an instructor, Spencer stepped in and taught both kids & adult classes for almost a year before the school was able to find a replacement. There he learned the ins and outs of operating the business through hands on experience and became more confident than ever in his calling.

Now a black belt, Spencer teaches at the same school he started his training in nearly a decade ago. Teaching beginner and advanced classes to both kids and adults.

With the full support of both instructors, owner and entire student body of Ralph Gracie Chino Hills, he has now opened up an affiliation school with his long time friend and training partner Albert Khait. Together they will create and provide the same positive atmosphere and quality instruction that will reflect the already established environment of Ralph Gracie Chino Hills.

About

Sektor Corona is a family friendly academy that teaches Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in a fun & safe environment.

The Art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a grappling-based martial art that focuses on the skill of controlling a resisting opponent by dominant positioning or submission. Because control is generally easier on the ground than in a standing position, much of the technique of BJJ is centered around the skill of taking an opponent down to the ground and wrestling for positions where the opponent can be rendered harmless.

A primary attraction to BJJ is the focus on overcoming an opponent of greater size, strength and aggression . This is done by utilizing superior leverage, grip and body positioning. Students of the art gain a deep, hands on understanding of the workings and limits of the human body. This knowledge can be used to subdue an opponent in an appropriate manner to any level of severity the physical altercation presents itself with.

Mastering the art of BJJ is physically and mentally demanding. But over the years of study students will benefit from increased physical fitness, problem-solving ability, self-knowledge of their body, mind and the many social benefits of team building. Working with like-minded fellow students, camaraderie is very prominent in BJJ and adds greatly to it’s appeal.

Many students first learn about BJJ through the great popularity of the sport of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu remains one of the most relevant practices due to the early beginnings of MMA, where BJJ consistently overcame other arts and proved it’s effectiveness and efficiency. As the sport of MMA grew, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu became one of the most utilized arts, and remains prominent to this day.

Although Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is heavily associated with MMA, the practice of the art is quite different. Daily classes do not feature kicking, punching or any striking of any kind. The focus is on safe grappling techniques that can be done on a daily basis with no more fear of injury than any other contact sport.
